Australian Poll shows Fiji a Safe & Friendly Destination

A recent poll by the online family travel magazine 'Out & About With Kids' showed a high ranking for Fiji Islands as a safe, family-friendly destination. Fiji even outranked such destinations as Vanuatu and the UK. Fiji's friendly population combined with its well-developed tourism infrastructure ensures its continued success as a safe family holiday destination for Australians.

Mana Island's 'sunset beach' - deep soft white sand facing the sunset in the Mamanuca Islands group

Malolo Resort - white sand beach facing the Malolo reefs and tropical sunsets, also in the Mamanucas

Blue Lagoon Cruises beach on Nanuyalailai in the Yasawas - take a luxury cruise with Blue Lagoon Cruises and spend a gorgeous day here.

Octopus Resort's beach on Likuliku Bay - deep soft white sand at this budget to mid-range vacation resort.

Maravu Resort's private beach on Taveuni, with shady Vutu trees and beautiful ocean and island views

Lavena Beach, also on Taveuni - idyllic and peaceful and was the location for the Blue Lagoon movie.

Qamea Beach Resort private beach - a romantic honeymoon and wedding destination near Taveuni.

Natadola Beach on Viti Levu, Fiji's main island - long curved beach with surfing waves due to lack of fringing reef.

Namale Resort near Savusavu on Vanua Levu - romantic secluded beach just for guests.

Mamanuca Islands of Fiji

The Mamanuca island group consists of around 20 small islands spread across to the west of Viti Levu. In 2006, there were approximately 808 rooms in 23 properties. This area has the highest proportion of premium rooms with 91% (735 rooms) of total rooms in this category.

In 2005, the Mamanuca islands were the second most visited destination within Fiji with 88,341 visitor arrivals.
17% of total visitor nights and an average of 5 nights were spent in the Mamanucas. Pacific Sun services a maximum of 70 return flights to Mana Island weekly and 56 return flights to Malololailai island carrying 15 passengers per flight. There are also regular ferry services by South Sea Cruises offering up to 49 return trips with 3 vessels to the Mamanucas per
week carrying a maximum of 598 passengers per trip. Beachcomber cruises service Beachcomber Island and the Malolo Cat services Malolo island resorts. Charter planes also service Vomo, Tokoriki, Matamanoa, Castaway, Mana, Waidigi, Malololailai and Treasure on a daily basis from Nadi. The variety of efficient transport linkages mean transport linkages are constant to existing or growing tourism.

Musket Cove Resort also has a marina that can accommodate up to 65ft vessels and a lagoon anchorage capable of providing safe anchorage for over 100 yachts. With the known proposed projects as at late 2006, accommodation in the Mamanuca group may grow to provide 1,409 rooms in 31 properties. It is likely 88% of these rooms will be in the premium group. The Mamanucas provide the characteristic Pacific island resort which for many is the aspirational holiday experience. From the early resorts at Malolo and Castaway to the recently opened Likuliku resort, the islands support a diversity of mid to upmarket experiences.

Guests on Vanuatu day cruise see dugongs!

On Tuesday 4th of December on a day cruise on the ship Coongoola in Vanuatu, guests had the pleasure to see two dugongs surface close to the ship! This occurred after the guests had visited Tranquillity Island dive base for snorkelling, a visit to the turtle rookery and a beach barbecue. As the ship set sail and departed the island one dugong followed the ship for some time before casually returning to the shallows giving great delight to those on board.

The Coongoola day cruise can be booked via Tranquillity Island Resort.

Nadi Budget Resort expands its accommodation

Mamas Tropic of Capricorn Resort, located on Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi Fiji Islands is to open its new wing very soon. The new fully air-conditioned accommodation is located on the beach with ocean views and will include Hot/Cold Water, Irish Bar, Roof Top Garden Bar (ideal for watching the sun set sipping an ice-cold Fiji beer or tropical cocktail), and Sky TV.

Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi Fiji is a popular area for backpackers and budget holiday travellers, and a cluster of accommodation options can be found there. The beach is flat and perfect for walking, running or frisbie throwing and the water fine for swimming (not snorkelling here as there is no offshore coral reef).

Mama's Tropic of Capricorn is well known for its owner - a Fijian 'mama' who will ensure you have a home from home while visiting Fiji Islands. With great airline deals into Fiji from Australia, this is a perfect time to take a break from the cold Aussie winter, so you might want to check with the resort as to the opening date for the new wing.

Fijian Lovo Dinners for that tropical barbecue!

Fiji, only around 3-4 hours flight from Australia's eastern seaboard, makes a perfect tropical holiday destination. With lower economy flights made possible by airlines such as Pacific Blue (Virgin), now is a great opportunity for taking a vacation. Imagine .. escape the Australian winter, and relax on a beach in Fiji.

No visit to Fiji is complete without enjoying some of the local culture. Some of the friendliest people on earth. Colourful traditional dancing called the ' meke '. And an array of delicious tropical fruits and vegetables.

Experience local food cooked in the ' lovo ' or underground earth oven. It is a method of cooking found throughout the South Pacific. The stones are heated up first and when they are red hot the food, which is wrapped in coconut leaves, are placed on the rocks and then covered with more leaves and sand. The food is cooked in its own natural juices, which leaves a taste that is hard to resist!

Combine this with a tropical cocktail or icy Fiji beer. What better way to spend at least part of the Aussie winter! ... and there are a wide variety of different regions in Fiji Islands to choose from, such as the long-standing popular Coral Coast, the white sand beach islands of the Mamanucas, the remote and beautiful Yasawa islands, the friendly North such as Taveuni and Savusavu, etc.

Fiji always popular with Australian holidaymakers

Statistics now available show that almost one-third of visitors to the beautiful Fiji Islands come from Australia. Whilst the stats relate to 2005, it is a trend that has endured for many years, commencing back some 30-40 years with the development of the famous Coral Coast resorts.

Nearly 200,000 Australians visited Fiji in 2005, and despite occasional political situations, Fiji has always retained its position as a favourite South Pacific destination to visit.

So why do Australians visit Fiji? Firstly, Fiji is regarded as a relaxing place, where visitors can meet friendly local people in a sun and sand destination. Fiji is also seen as a romantic destination, ideal for honeymoon vacations and tropical weddings. Fiji is second to the Gold Coast as a family destination. Fiji is also popular with Australian travellers as a cultural holiday destination, its friendly people and fascinating traditions showing there is more to be offered in Fiji Islands than just sun and sand.
