Mamanuca Islands of Fiji

The Mamanuca island group consists of around 20 small islands spread across to the west of Viti Levu. In 2006, there were approximately 808 rooms in 23 properties. This area has the highest proportion of premium rooms with 91% (735 rooms) of total rooms in this category.

In 2005, the Mamanuca islands were the second most visited destination within Fiji with 88,341 visitor arrivals. 17% of total visitor nights and an average of 5 nights were spent in the Mamanucas. Pacific Sun services a maximum of 70 return flights to Mana Island weekly and 56 return flights to Malololailai island carrying 15 passengers per flight. There are also regular ferry services by South Sea Cruises offering up to 49 return trips with 3 vessels to the Mamanucas per week carrying a maximum of 598 passengers per trip. Beachcomber cruises service Beachcomber Island and the Malolo Cat services Malolo island resorts. Charter planes also service Vomo, Tokoriki, Matamanoa, Castaway, Mana, Waidigi, Malololailai and Treasure on a daily basis from Nadi. The variety of efficient transport linkages mean transport linkages are constant to existing or growing tourism.

Musket Cove Resort also has a marina that can accommodate up to 65ft vessels and a lagoon anchorage capable of providing safe anchorage for over 100 yachts. With the known proposed projects as at late 2006, accommodation in the Mamanuca group may grow to provide 1,409 rooms in 31 properties. It is likely 88% of these rooms will be in the premium group. The Mamanucas provide the characteristic Pacific island resort which for many is the aspirational holiday experience. From the early resorts at Malolo and Castaway to the recently opened Likuliku resort, the islands support a diversity of mid to upmarket experiences.

Guests on Vanuatu day cruise see dugongs!

On Tuesday 4th of December on a day cruise on the ship Coongoola in Vanuatu, guests had the pleasure to see two dugongs surface close to the ship! This occurred after the guests had visited Tranquillity Island dive base for snorkelling, a visit to the turtle rookery and a beach barbecue. As the ship set sail and departed the island one dugong followed the ship for some time before casually returning to the shallows giving great delight to those on board.

The Coongoola day cruise can be booked via Tranquillity Island Resort.

Daku Resort offers versatile Fiji Holiday options

In Fiji, Daku Resort in Savusavu is a one of a kind 'upscale budget' resort – where you'll have an ocean view from your own traditional style bure. Breakfast is served in a large open-style bure beside the swimming pool. The sea is over the road at the end of the drive, and behind the resort a track takes you across a small freshwater creek and up through the lush tropical forest to a magnificent mountain top view of the bay.

They have snorkelling equipment, kayaks and a boat to hire, and they can organise diving, fishing, bike rides and hiking in the bush. Alternatively you can just take it easy in the pool, or sit on your deck and enjoy the view of the gardens and the bay. Savusavu is a popular destination in Fiji.

Daku Resort also runs holiday study courses in a range of areas: writing, painting, singing, stitching, birding. Each one is taught by an experienced teacher, usually from Australia, and runs for 5 – 6 days.
